Orpiment

Long before the presence of fine Chinese or Nevada orpiment specimens, those from Huancavelica, like this piece were considered among the world's best. Here we have one side of the matrix totally covered by chisel shaped, lustrous and translucent, burnt orange colored orpiment crystals, to 1.3 cm in length. around the edges are alteration phases of golden yellow (and some minor damage). Excellent and rarely seen example of Peruvian orpimen!
