Orpiment

A brilliant orange group of spherical Orpiment on a bit of matrix from the famous Quiruvilca Mine in Peru. Typicallly the Orpiment specimens from this mine are more of a dull orange or a brownish orange, and rarely so vibrant like this piece. Not only is the color superb, but the actual size of the individual spheres is large for the locality and the species in general. Obviously it has a few contacts, but it was still valued at $1400 in our inventory and it a very worthwhile display specimen of his uncommon material. It's distinctly different from just about any other Orpiments I've seen. There were similar specimens from the El'brusskiy Arsenic mine in Russia, but they had more texture to the surface, and not as smooth and eye-catching as this specimen. Hard to find and I can't say enough about the color.
