Orbicular Jasper (old Ward's label)

Item Description

An interesting and rarely seen "Round Cabochon" cut gem of Orbicular Jasper labeled only as coming from Santa Clara County, California. There are two labels that accompany the stone, one of which is an historic label from Ward's in Rochester, one of the great mineral dealerships of the 20th century in the United States. The other label is written in Italian and reads:
"Diaspro con orbicoli rossi aventi la lacenterra della vernice fresca"
"Jasper with red orbicles having the Luster of the fresh varnish"
The stone honestly doesn't look like the modern definition of a more rounded Orbicular Jasper to me, as it has dendritic forms when you look at it closely, but we're maintaining the integrity of the label on this one.
