Item Description

Delicate and attractive, this cluster of rare orange Prehnite is from a small, 2000-02 find at the famous Nchwaning Mines. The cluster is composed of very gemmy Prehnite blades up to 8 mm long, and they are associated with gemmy Calcite crystals that average about 3-4 mm. The orange color is pure, and very pleasing to the eye. An excellent thumbnail with a very good association. There is a whole scientific paper on them written by Bruce Cairncross as Prehnite seems to be significant in its rarity in the Kalahari fields. THIS IS THE ONLY FIND OF PREHNITE IN THE KALAHARI DISTRICT PROPER, and is considered a geological oddity. These orange crystals were first thought to be inesite. Still to this day, they are unique and command high prices.
