Item Description

Orange calcite specimens (tinted by iron oxides) are rare and desirable from the famous mines at Charcas. This spectacular 360-degree knob in fully covered with very glassy and translucent, orangey, blocky complex calcite rhombs. The striking large rhomb is 4.3 x 3.7 x 3.6 cm and is doubly terminated. The matrix is intergrown danburite crystals. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only very trivial edgewear. This exceptional and very uncommon combination piece displays beautifully without aid. Probably from late 70s or early 80s finds. Ex Dick Heck Collection and valued at $750. Dr. Heck had an outstanding eye for fine Mexican specimens, when this material was coming out.
