Item Description
Lumaschelle or muschelmarmor (German) is a sedimentary rock containing opalescent shells and shell or ammonite fragments showing brilliant, mainly green to red reflections. This stiriking and beautiful polished slab of Triassic limestone is from the historic Bleiberg District of Austia and the composition is called shell hash by geologists, as it consists almost entirely of fragments of mollucs and gastropods. The unpolished backside is especially rich in large opalescent shell fragments. This is a serious old-timer from the renowned collection of Clarence Bement and Herb Obodda dealer stock. Older material dating to the early to middle 19th Century or earlier.
