Item Description
A hard to find specimen of beautiful "jelly"-like globules of colorless spherical Opal-(AN) (formerly "Hyalite") from the lesser known locality of Squaretop Mountain in Queensland, Australia. The largest "ball" measures 5 mm across. I've only seen a few of these over the years, but they are certainly fine quality, and hold up against other "Hyalites" from classic localities like Valec in the Czech Republic. Undamaged on the display side, and like most pieces of "Hyalite", this one shows good green fluorescence under SW UV light. This material gets its name from it's structure / form. The "A" in the name represents amorphous, and the "N" refers to its network-like structure, which resembles silica-glass.
