Item Description

The old Opals from Monok are rarely seen on the market these days. For me, they are every bit as beautiful as their counterparts from Valec in the Czech Republic, which for whatever reason have a lot more publicity than the Hungarian piece. It's really a shame because these piece from Monok are incredibly beautiful and I don't think enough people know about them. For years we called these "Hyalite" Opals, but the material is now referred to as Opal-AN due to its amorphous "bead"-like structure. This piece features a wonderful GEMMY, colorless, semi-spherical aggregate of Opal-AN beautifully sitting atop the Rhyolite matrix. If you look closely, you'll see the tiny "beads" on the surface of the Opal group, but when you look at the overall aggregate, it really resembles something organic. To top it off, the Opal glows with an electric green hue under SW UV light. A wonderful, fine quality eye-catching example of this seldom seen material and a must have for any fan of Opals, fluorescent minerals or just unusual specimens.
