Opal Triplet (multicolor)

Opal is a very diverse and highly colorful gem. It can occur in stones of a single hue, and range into multi-colored gems showing the full spectrum. It's also one of the few stones that looks just as attractive when it's crystal clear as it does when the stones are opaque. Despite it's rather simplistic chemistry, Opals show a great range of color in many varieties, this is due to water content within the gem. This gem shows flashes of red, orange, gold, yellow and green set against a dark background. When this stone is strongly lit, it shows great color. Please note that this stone is a triplet, which means a thin slice of Opal set against a backing and capped off to help allow the color to better show through. A wonderful example of this famous material.
