Item Description
A translucent mass of light green colored Opal (referred to as Prase Opal) from this famous nickel-bearing locality in Poland. I don't know if this is chemically Opal or Chrysoprase as the latter gets its color from nickel, as it's essentially a nickel-bearing Quartz or more specifically a nickel-bearing Chalcedony. This locality was mined since the Middle Ages for Chrysoprase and eventually closed down around 1980. This piece is a nice example of these old classic specimens, and it's certainly worth adding to a collection of European classics. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3057). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
