Item Description

Opal is unique material, as it's one of the few gems that that features multi-color arrays within a single stone. Despite the rather simplistic chemistry of Opal (it's essentially cryptocrystalline/massive Quartz with water conent), the stones show a great range of color in many varieties. You'll find stones that range from completely opaque to transparent, and some show vivid flashes of every color of the rainbow. It makes sense because it's the water content in Opal that gives it the multi-color appearance, just the water refracting light in a rainbow. The Opals from Australia are some of the most well known and VIVID Opals in the world. This stone shows primarly blue and green flashes when rotated in teh light. Now I will point out that this stone is a doublet which means it is set against a backing to better show off the play of color.
