Opal in Petrified Wood (Opalized Wood)

An attractive piece of what is typically referred to as "Opalized Wood" from Indonesia. We started seeing these attractive pieces coming out a handful of years ago, and they are certainly some of the more colorful examples of Petrified Wood out there. This piece is a beautiful example featuring Precious Opal replacing Petrified Wood, with small areas of colorful translucent Opal set against the brownish-black Petrified Wood. With strong lighting, you can see little flashes of red, gold, blue and green in areas. The specimen is slightly polished / rounded to help the Opal shine. The Opal is best seen when viewed up close. These come to us direct from a friend who travels directly to Indonesia to buy material. It's very worthwhile for collectors because it's not just a mineral specimen, nor a gem specimen nor a fossil, but a combination of all three.
