Item Description

A classic piece of the famous Precious Opal replacing Petrified Wood from the renowned locality at Virgin Valley. This piece shows the notably well-preserved form of the tree with disticnt striations, and throughout the specimen are pockets of gemmy Precious Opal which shows color flashes of purple, blue and green. The Opal needs a decent light to show off the color, but it's really pretty when viewed up close. This material is nearly impossible to obtain these days, and is very worthwhile for collectors becuase it's not just a mineral specimen, nor a gem specimen nor a fossil, but a combination of all three. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#80). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
