Item Description
When it comes to Hyalite Opal - the proper name is Opal (var Opal-AN) - the specimens from Valec in the Czech Republic are the most famous in my mind. I recently obtained this specimen from a noted dealer/collector in Greece who assured me that it is indeed from GREECE! The is piece is highly reminiscent of the Czech material, including the bright green fluorescence under UV light! This material is essentially colorless, and resembles lustrous glass beads. The locality (in the Agean Sea) apparently produces only a handful of species, with the Hyalite being the most well known. This specimen features dozens of groups of intergrown spherical "bead"-like nodules of Hyalite with good internal gemminess and are smartly sitting on host rock matrix. If you're an Opal collector, this is a worthwhile representative piece of this very hard to find material.
