Item Description
An old-time, showy specimen of a globular, water-clear Hyalite Opal (the more common, historical name), from a classic Czech locality - Waltsch (Valec) in Bohemia. Opal-AN occurs in volcanic environments where the silica was deposited at elevated temperatures, and it is know for its unique, simple beauty and also its rich, lime-green fluorescence. Valec is probably the most famous locality in the world for Hyalite Opal , but the historic old mines are now closed as they lay in a military reservation. Formerly in the Hans-Leopold Dabbert collection. These pieces are part of a century-old Italian collection that was recently acquired. Gorgeous green glow under UV is a bonus to the gemminess and beauty in a case in normal light.
