Item Description
A of gem/carving-quality "precious opal" fills a shallow area in the center of a thick opaque rind of off-white opal on this miniature from the famed Virgin Valley of Nevada. The colors are in tense, with hues of fiery blues and greens within good quality bluish silica. This is a great display specimen with the 3 x 2.7 cm, elliptical shaped precious opal centered within the piece. Notably, not all Virgin Valley opals are stable without the need to keep them in water, however, this one survived a couple of decades without water, so I think we have proof it will last. ex Bob Reynolds collection
