Item Description
Australia is obviously the prolific producer of Opals in the world, especially the famous locality of Lightning Ridge, where some of the finest Black Opals are found. This stone could be called a Black Opal, but it's a doublet, so it's not a sold Opal, and the backing does help to create more of the black color in the background. It has an "Oval Cabochon" cut and features beautiful patches of electric red, orange, gold, green and a tiny but of blue when rotated under a strong light. The vibrant color of the Opal against the background makes for a lovely gem, which would do well in a pendant or loose as a great addition to your gem collection.
