Opal is at its best from Australia. The various styles and colors seen in these gem for many years has made Australia the world leader in terms of quantity and quality of fine stones. Opal has a very simple chemistry, as it's essentially uncrystallized Quartz with water content, but it's is one of the few gems that can be found in singular colored examples, or can exhibit all colors of the rainbow at once. It's also one of the few stones that looks just as attractive when it's crystal clear as it does when the stones are opaque. This beautiful gem is shows flashes of vibrant blue, green, yellow, red and orange set against a translucent background. When this stone is strongly lit, it shows fairly good color. This is a solid Opal, not a doublet or triplet, which is important in terms of value.
