When it comes to Opal, Australia for many years has been the world leader in terms of quantity and quality of fine stones. Opal has a very simple chemistry, as it's essentially uncrystallized Quartz with water content, but it's is one of the few gems that can be found in singular colored stones, or can exhibit all colors of the rainbow at once. It's also one of the few stones that looks just as attractive when it's crystal clear as it does when the stones are opaque. This beautiful gem is shows flashes of vibrant orange, yellow, red, blue and green set against a dark blue background. When this stone is strongly lit, it shows great color. Please note that this stone is a triplet, and is set against a backing to help allow the color to better show through.
