Item Description
Exceptional, RARE rich orange-red olmiite spheres are clustered and isolated on this outstanding and impressive large 360-degree specimen from the late 2000's finds at the famous Type Locality - the N'Chwaning II Mine. The scattered balls of the sparkly, translucent, densely intergrown orthorhombic crystals reach about 2.4 cm on the sculptural mounded matrix. The matrix also includes lighter colored darker looking olmiite balls. The orange-red balls have a beautiful GLOW, when backlit. See the 2017 excellent Mineralogical Record N'Chwaning mines article in Vol. 48, No. 1. Ex Dr. Vasco Trancoso Collection. These are superior quality, richly colored olmiites from the locale. We sold him this in the early 2000s when these came out, and it was notable for the size and 3-dimensionality. Valued $2000-plus
