Item Description

Olmiite from the Nchwaning II Mine has become a highly sought-after species, and this is one of the more impressive tannish pieces I have seen. All three habits occur on this 8 cm plate, and the quality is very good. The largest spherical cluster is an impressive 2.6 cm across, and it adjoins a 1.6 cm sphere. As on every single Olmiite crystal, the luster is superb, mirrorlike. The next most common habit are the rectangular prisms, and these beautiful crystals are partially gemmy. There are also a few bowties, which are very attractive in their own right. You can see them well on the main shot. Between the Olmiites and the matrix is a layer of small, spherical balls of Oyelite. For crystal quality, sheer size, and balance, this is one of the more impressive and aesthetic Olmiites I have seen. valued $1200-1500
