Olivenite (Zinc-bearing) on Conichalcite

A significant and rich miniature for Olivenite, now known as Zincian Olivenite or Zincolivenite depending on whom you ask. Olivenite from Tsumeb ranks among the world's finest, and in combination with the other species makes this an even more desirable specimen. From the great Tsumeb mine, this fine and attractive combination piece features two rare zinc-rich species: The lustrous crystals of Zinc-rich Olivenite (zincolivenite in new naming standards, perhaps), up to 8 mm across, are classic for the species...not only for their deep-green color, but for their habit as well. The curved terminations, and triangular form to many of the faces, are typical for this style of tsumeb Olivinite and easily identifiable. Such recognition adds, to my mind, a certain value and cachet to any specimen. These quality Zincolivinites have grown atop a layer of sparkly microcrystals of Conichalcite, with the dark-green on olive-green providing a pleasant complement to each other (all on a quartzy matrix).
