Item Description

Wheal Gorland olivenite and quartz specimens are a Cornwall classic and this is a showy and rich small cabinert. Sparkling, oxide-coated, green olivenite crystals fill a vug very attractively flanked by quartz crystals in the massive quartz matrix. Contacting/bruising is noted on the upper right, but this remains a highly representative example of the combination species and famous locale. Old-time, classic combination material from the Bob Trimingham Collection and from the Lord Calvert Collection, according to his label. John Frederick, "Lord" Calvert (1825-1897) (according to Cooper, 2006) was a collector, con-man, crank, dealer, mining engineer, inventor and gold prospector.
