Item Description
This is an exceptionally (I should say obscenely) rich specimen of the very rare mineral species gartrellite, from Tsumeb. This rare arsenate was only found sparsely at Tsumeb, and I have seen for sale mostly just thumbnails in the past. This is a CABINET PIECE loaded with the stuff in rich pistachio green microcrystals running on and through the matrix. Briliantly lustrous, deep green, sharp olivenite crystals provide contrast. It was very very very tempting to reduce this specimen into 20 pieces and sell them individually but I feel it would be a travesty to break up such a significant and rare large example like this without selling first as is. This specimen is no the most beuatiful Tsumeb mineral ever seen but it IS a significant piece, and shows fairly well as a bonus. It is from the collection of Willy Israel, a collector in Belgium, who notes that he obtained it from noted mine geologist John Innes who had some great pieces sold off in the 1980s. Valued $2500
