Okenite, Gyrolite & Calcite in pocket (old classic finds from 1990s!) Kidwell Coll.

Item Description

A very sculptural and dramatic large open-ended combination pocket in basalt from the well-known extinct quarries at Pune. Two well-placed spiky puff balls of creamy Okenite, to 2.8 cm, dominate the interior of the vug. A field of small, off-white Gyrolite botryoids, to 7 mm, visible in the front of the pocket plus the scattered glassy, translucent Calcite rhombohedrons and sections are fine and typical accessories. The vug is fully lined with snow-white drusy Quartz, a further complement. Most of them were found and brought to market from near Pune, the older quarries worked in the 1980s and early 1990s, and now under parking lots and buildings. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974. A Mineral World classic. this is OLD material and no longer found in this quality! we only get these gorgeous geodes out of old collections now
