Item Description
Okenite is a well-known mineral for the simple fact that many great specimens were found in India for many years. Now they have nearly all but dried up, and very little new material is coming out of any quarry in India these days. Most people would not be familiar with Okenite as a species were it not for the specimens from India. This mineral has one of the most distinctive appearances of any species because it forms in beautiful spherical "puff ball"-esque groups that almost look organic or even alive. While their "fuzzy" appearance is so enticing, it is important to note that you really should not touch them, as they will bruise and you can break the tiny thread-like crystals when you press on them. This large cabinet display specimen features several attractive, well-formed, soft pale cream colored, radiating "snowball"-shaped aggregates measuring up to 2.6 cm across sitting atop a slab of nearly black basalt matrix. Excellent quality all around with very little damage. You don't see many large cabinets of this quality on the market anymore, so don't miss out on getting a good piece for a great price. Okenite is often found in association with zeolite species, but it is not a zeolite, just like Apophyllite.
