Octahedral Fluorite with Galena and Pyrite (New Find)

This excellent specimen is from a small new find at the renowned Huanzala Mine of Peru, from mid-January of 2010. It produced a number of pink octahedral fluorites with green cores associated with sharp, accenting, melted-look galena crystals and bright, brassy pyrite crystals. This is the first major find of pink fluorites at Huanzala, since the world-famous 1980 find. However, few of the fluorites were glassy, most having the matte faces typical of this mine. This piece is STRONGLY ATYPICAL, in that all of the modified octohedrons (to 1.9 cm long), are glassy and gemmy with complicated octohedral faces with minute and intricate surface modifications. The complex of fluorite octos is elegantly perched atop the galena, pyrite and fluorite matrix. The color is a rich pink hue, with a slight green core seen in some lighting. For the size range, one of the best I know of from the find because of its gemminess, intricate structure and nice balanced association. Valued at $650-850.
