Item Description

Ocean Jasper is the trade name given to the iconic multi-colored orbicular Jasper (and other material) that is most famously found at Marovato near the northwestern coast of Madagascar. These stones actually are not purely Jasper, as the entry on mindat.org states that, "This is not strictly a jasper but a highly silicified rhyolite or tuff". The actual Jasper component of the material is the spherical (orbicular) formations which are often polished to show off their beauty. This piece is a good sized sample of this attractive material featuring a multitude of colors from pinks to dark greens to gentle golden and cream colored tones. Beautiful on both sides and the contrast of the lighter warmer hues against the stark forest green background make for a really appealing gem.
