Obsidian ("Apache Tear")

Item Description

Apache Tears are essentially volcanic glass / obsidian, and like glass, they are quite gemmy when backlit, despite their black exterior. They remind one of Smoky Quartz in terms of the color but on the outside and inside. Some of the most well-known pieces are those from the Picketpost Mountain area, near Superior, Arizona. It has the typical oblong shape with nice internal translucency that can be seen with strong backlighting.
