Nickelskutterudite (formerly Chloanthite)

For quite some years, these specimens were labeled as Chloanthite, which for a long time was a valid species, but has now been discredited. Eventually all of the Chloanthite specimens were reclassified as Nickelskutterudite, which is an approved valid species, and the nickel analogue of Ferroskutterudite and Skutterudite. This particular specimen is a notably impressive, richly crystallized full-sized miniature of Nickelskutterudite from the historic Schneeberg area in Saxony featuring a rich coverage of fine sharp, lustrous, bright silvery metallic crystals measuring up to 1.7 cm across on matrix. This is rare material that dates back many decades. Valued at $1,000-$1,500 for the notable size and quality.
