Item Description
Crystallized nickeline, Ni-arsenide, is VERY RARE from the historic mines at Schneeberg. Specimens are usually crystal sections or massive. This is a RARE, solid specimen of crudely crystallized, nubby hexagonal crystals, many with partially hollow interiors. Most of the crystals have a gray to greenish-gray crust, but fresh surfaces show the typical and classic champagne coloration of nickeline. Niccolite is the Italian name for nickeline. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 9725 and acquired in Coblenz, Germany in October, 1982. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). This is an important, rich and RARE crystallized example of this very uncommon ore species from Schneeberg. Undoubtedly old-time, 100 year-old material, but no proof.
