Item Description
Newberyite is a rare hydrated magnesium phosphate, found first in the Skipton Caves in Victoria, Australia, which just happens to be where this piece is from. This specimen features an aggregate of good sized, sharp, well-formed, lustrous, pastel reddish-brown colored, pseudohexagonal (they're actually orthorhombic) platy crystals, free of matrix. A fine specimen of this rare material, and it would be a very worthwhile pickup for anybody who collects phosphates, rare minerals, thumbnails or species from Australia. From the collection of Shields Flynn with another label stating it was part of the collection of Marty Zinn.
