Item Description

A wonderful association specimen from the famous Gem Mine specimen featuring excellent, sharp, lustrous, prismatic, dark reddish-black crystals of Neptunite measuring up to 1.8 cm long associated with small sharp, lustrous, well-formed, translucent, orange-brown colored Joaquinite-(Ce) crystals on a thin layer of white Natrolite atop grey-blue Crossite matrix. To two of the three major species from the mine together on the same specimen is a big deal, and it's something that is seen in only a tiny percentage of specimens from this historic locality. Keep in mind that Joaquinite-(Ce) is a RARE mineral, found in a few places in the world. The Gem Mine is the type locality for Joaquinite-(Ce), along with obviously being best known for its amazing Benitoite specimens. Priced in the inventory at $1,850. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
