Item Description

Here we have a classic specimen of Neptunite from the now closed Gem Mine in California. These are some of the most recognizable specimens in the world and they are renowned for their quality and beauty. This piece hosts a sharp, highly lustrous, doubly-terminated, prismatic crystal of dark reddish-black Neptunite measuring 1.4 cm sitting on a layer of white Natrolite on matrix. For the quality and aesthetics, this is a great specimen of this fast-disappearing material. Great shape all around, no damage. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
