Item Description

Labeled as Scolecite, this is actually a Natrolite specimen. The similar looking species are members of the Natrolite Subgroup of the Zeolite Group of minerals. Radial sprays of glassy white natrolite blades cover the sculptural small cabinet of essentially solid natrolite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5224 and acquired from Dietrich in a trade in the late 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). This extinct phonolite quarry, since 2013, is well-known for natrolite, calcite and thomsonite specimens and this is a rich and excellent example.
