Natrolite (Joe Lobell Coll.)

Sparkly cream-colored spheres, to 1.4 cm, of natrolite needles aesthetically fill a curved vug in basalt matrix on this sculptural and excellent specimen from the Joe Lobell Collection. The periphery wear reveals the radial growth of the balls, adding character. This dam area, near metro Phoenix in a mountain park to the north, was the site of a remarkable find of zeolite minerals and furnished Arizona's best natrolite specimens. Such specimens from the 1980s finds are now rarely available and this is a fine example.
