Item Description

An extremely rare and very showy zeolite combination specimen from one of the world's most famous diamond mining areas - Kimberley in South Africa. The matrix is kimberlite, the potassic volcanic host rock for diamonds. The striking, sculptural field of snow-white natrolite stalactites hosts a single, 9 mm, sharp, calcite rhomb and numerous, water-clear, colorless apophyllite crystals, several strikingly perched on the tips of the stalactites! Rare, old-time material from this famous locale, most likely the Bulfontein Mine. Ex Harvard Museum Collection.
