Item Description

While native tellurium has been reported from a fair number of world localities, the finest examples ever found are those from the Emperor Mine in Fiji. The quality and size of the best crystals from this locality have set the standard for the species. This piece is a great example of this rare and classic material featuring fine, sharp, highly lustrous, silvery-white colored metallic trigonal crystals scattered over Quartz on matrix . With magnification you can see some of the crystals are notably well-formed and show some beautiful striation lines on the prism faces. Individual crystals are probably no more than about 1 mm, but there is a cluster of crystalline native tellurium on the specimen that measures 4 mm across. We have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality of these little crystals. These specimens are seldom seen on the market today, and if you collect native elements, it's almost required that you have a tellurium from the Emperor Mine in your collection.
