Item Description

Dating back to at least 1850, this is a very fine example of the Sulfur specimens that were once found on St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. The rich, continuous layer of Sulfur, on a matrix of porous volcanic tuff, is composed of lustrous, greenish-yellow microcrystals. The clusters of Sulfur give the layer a nice, rolling texture, and the terminations on many of the Sulfurs create plenty of sparkle. Previously in the collections of James Read (circa late 1800s), the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences, and Chris Stefano.
