Native Sulfur - circa 1850

Item Description

Dating back to at least 1850, this is a very fine example of the Sulfur specimens that were once found on St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. The rich, continuous layer of Sulfur, on a matrix of porous volcanic tuff, is composed of lustrous, greenish-yellow microcrystals. The clusters of Sulfur give the layer a nice, rolling texture, and the terminations on many of the Sulfurs create plenty of sparkle.
