Item Description
Intricate and attractive, this venerable plate of crystallized native Copper dates back to the 1800's, the heyday of mining in the famous Cornwall District - although surviving coppers are rare from those days. Looking carefully at the piece, you can see that much if the growth originated with straight spines of Copper near the base. These spines reach up to 2.5 cm in length, and the Copper branched out and developed from there. Intergrown with the Copper are many small, sharp Cuprite crystals, making this a classic combination. The arborescent growth is not as well-developed as you sometimes see from other locations, but nonetheless this is an attractive , old-time Copper that is rarely available these days. From the noted historic classics collection of Richard 'Dick' Hauck of New Jersey.
