Item Description

An elegant, RARE, very well-crystallized and 3-dimensional Copper from the well-known White Pine Mine of Michigan. The striking overall arborescent spinel-twinned form is composed of stacked sharp to subhedral tetrahexahedral crystals. The Copper crystals, which can range up to 7 mm, have rich color, a good patina with some attractive iridescence. There is a noticeable and interesting difference in crystallization and form between this and most copper from here. But what makes this so unusual and desirable for the White Pine Mine is overall 3-dimensionality and sharp crystallization. Most Copper specimens from there are flattened, since they grew along fissures and bedding planes in the Nonesuch Shale, but not so here. The crystal development and overall structure gives these branching clusters a fine aesthetic that puts them a step above many related Coppers from White Pine. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection.
