Item Description

RARE, fantastically sculptural two-sided floater plate copper from this less well-known Pennsylvania copper locality. The copper deposits have been known since the mid-1800s and produce from epidotic rhyolite, massive quartz and associated secondary copper minerals (MINDAT). Most native copper specimens from here are generally blocky and hackly, with unimaginative sculptural form. This striking piece screams artistic form with many of the spear-like crystals appearing to be spinel-twins. The two dramatic appendages at the top, swirled pattern at the bottom, numerous holes and starkly contrasting greenstone matrix with a few blebs of green malachite or chrysocolla add up to a surreal and very rare style native copper from this locale. From a recent find of about 10 years ago.
