Item Description

An old-time, 19th Century copper specimen from a well-known Cornwall mine. The South Caradon Mine opened in 1833 and closed in 1886, with extensive ruins and dumps still existing. Hackly dark copper, probably coated with cuprite, richly invests the brecciated quartz matrix. An old paper label is glued to the bottom of the piece. Documented specimens from this mine are relatively uncommon. Classic material from the Sal Avella Copper Collection. Sal valued this piece at $500 on his own card - from many years ago.
