Item Description

Impressive in both size and metallic, machined-like detail, this select, old-time Copper specimen is from the famous Cliff Mine on the renowned, copper-rich Keweenaw Peninsula. Heavily crystallized, this piece weighs in at a substantial 1 lb and 11 ounces. The Copper crystals are spinel-twinned and dendritic in habit, with the Copper featured in the first photo being 1.8 cm tall. The color is rich and pronounced throughout the piece, with all the crystals cleanly displayed. This is classic Copper Country material, mined before the Cliff Mine closed in 1887. Formerly in the exceptional collection of the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, and then briefly in the the well-known Copper suites of the collections of William Severance and of Michigan collector Bob Nowakowski
