Item Description

A very hard to find specimen of actual CRYSTALLIED Native Bismuth from the Eldorado Mine in Port Radium (near the Arctic Cirle), Canada. Sharp, distinct, silvery colored, highly lustrous crystals can be seen sitting in the massive Nickeline matrix on both sides of the specimen. The piece is accompanied by labels from from noted rare species dealer Josef Vajdak and Dr. F. P. D'Esposo of Utica, New York. Vajdak says specifically on his label that the Bismuth is "very rare in crystal form; collected in the early 1950's". If you collect rare species, Canadian minerals or old classics, you can't afford to miss out on this attractive specimen that dates back nearly 70 years! Valued at $550 in the inventory. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
