Item Description

A fantastic cool old-time thumbnail of solid Native Bismuth from the TYPE LOCALITY for the species. Looking closely, you can see distinct, sharp, well-formed, skeletal crystals of silvery-bronze colored Native Bismuth in the central portions of the specimen. One rarely has the opportunity to purchase a piece of this classic and elusive material, so don't miss out! The piece is fairly hefty for its size weighing in at 59.71 grams. These have all but disappeared from the market now, and are certainly worth picking up if you collect thumbnails, native elements or old classic species from the type locality. From the collection of Richard Hauck, who co-founded the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, New Jersey with his brother, Robert after purchasing the land in 1989. He is a charter member and a former President of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society, the Geoliterary Society, and the Franklin Mineral Museum. The mineral species Hauckite was named in his honor 1980.
