Item Description
Flakes of lustrous metallic-gray native antimony are set in a 5.8 cm antique cork stoppered glass vial from the historic mines at St Andreasberg. Antimony specimens are relatively uncommon from here. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5994 and acquired from Al McGuinness in the late 1960s. Comes with two old labels, one easily over 100 years old. Kay assembled a nice suite of classics and rarities from this famed district. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). An excellent old-time example of an uncommon species. The last mine closed in 1910.
