Item Description

Franklin is the type locality for Nasonite, and this species is one of the more highly sought after minerals out of hundreds that occur in this prolific mining district. Nasonite is a Lead Calcium Chloro Silicate which was named after After Frank Lewis Nason in 1899. This species is only found in a handful of worldwide localities, Franklin being the most important. The piece features extremely rare, white/colorless, lustrous crystals on massive Nasonite matrix. A great rarity and a very hard to find specimen of this well known yet elusive species from Franklin. The piece came to Rich Kosnar from noted New Jersey collector Pat Gross, and her original plastic mounting box with her handwritten label on the base accompanies the piece. A cool specimen of this classic material.
