Item Description
A rich and rare nadorite miniature from this ancient Type Locality. Worked for lead and zinc by the Romans, French and Algerians worked the mine for antimony from 1860-1978 (MINDAT). Nadorite is a rare lead-antimony halide. The dense cluster of lustrous, coated metallic blades reach 1.3 cm and although many are broken or show portions, also there are many good crystals mixed in and the overall richness is significant. I am told that most of these were found during the French expeditionary times of the late 1800s and early 1900s, by the French colonial geological exploratory bureau BRGM (and have seen some such labels turn up on the market with nadorites, time to time, which confirms this). This mine is the only locality for superb larger crystals of this species. Ex Narodni Museum and Josef Vajdak Collections. The old paper label in German is 13.9 x 9.7 cm. Valued at $500-600.
