Item Description
Finds in Morocco in the early 2000s literally redefined expectations for collecting Acanthite, with some specimens of unprecedented quality and size appearing on market for the first time from any locale. This memorable, museum sized display piece is an aesthetic and very large example of Acanthite from the major Moroccan find from 2005 at the Imiter Mine. This dignified piece consists of many dozens of stacked, pagoda-like clusters of charcoal gray Acanthite crystals displaying a typically matte luster. The octahedral Acanthite crystals are distinct and up to 1.5 cm on edge producing an rustic, architecture over the entire piece. The stacked clusters are spread out over the full dimensions of the piece from top to bottom and right to left! It is a stately cluster for the species with sets set of large crystals assembled vertically upward for great presentation and aesthetics. Dr. Pohl loved German silver specimens, and acanthite in general; and so she sent a scout to Morocco to directly buy from the miners in quantity, so that she might get offered the best pieces. This is one of the largest she acquired at the time ( and it had a valuation of over 50,000 euros even in a direct purchase in Morocco) out of hundreds of specimens. Specimens such as this are literally unprecedented in size and quality - and have not been found since. She spent millions of euros to monopolise much of the discovery, in order to have the chance to obtain pieces like this one, which was proudly shown in her home display cases. It is, quite literally, a masterpiece for the species with shocking size and impact. It belongs in a museum or a major collection.
